IRELAND

On a boat, along the water,
lreland reveals all its secrets!
Land wherever you like! Generous, Ireland's nature invites you to undertake all sorts of activities : walking, climbing, cycle rides, golf, fishing, or cultural visits.

Ballinamore

Shannon, Shannon-Erne Waterway

From Ballinamore, first village prize of the County, you rejoin the famous Shannon, the longest river in Ireland, which lays before you a procession of wonders. Far from all commercial river traffic, navigable on 220 km and with only 6 locks, this river and its lakes, true inland seas offer a deliciously harmonious combination of natural culture, natural sites and tourists areas.

Magnificent natural parks as well as animal and wild bird reserves border the river throughout the trip.

Further South, Athlone is remarkable for its castle imposingly occupying a strategic position since the 13th century. Not far away is the Clonmacnoise, the largest monastic site in Ireland, founded in 548 and which flourished for centuries: eight churches, a cathedral, two round towers, three high sculptured crosses, vestiges of the castle, over 200 carved tombs dating from the 12th century.

NORTHER IRELAND

Ballinamore

Erne, Shannon-Erne Waterway.

From Ballinamore, the canal "Shannon-Erne Waterways" rejoins to the North the Erne, the other great Irish river. Magnificently restored, the canal,

163 km long, includes 16 locks.

With 34 superb picturesque bridges, it now allows, for the first time in over a century , to navigate in a wonderland decor. Rivers, canals and lakes punctuated with islands which succede each other and reserve a unique mix of tranquil countryside, hospitable villages renowned for their warmth and hospitality. Glide from Ballyconnell to Belturbet : here Irish folklore is still alive. Then you enter the kingdom of lakes, in the county of Fermanagh, paradise for birds, wild flowers and fishermen : here is what is now Northern Ireland.

Still little frequented, this lacework of canals, rivers and lakes takes you through the magic which has reigned from the ancient times of Celtic chiefs, to the islands with their Mégalithic tombs and ancient stone figurines : you are in one of the last non polluted natural regions of Europe.
