In the North East of Poland, near the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad, Mazurie or «Land of a thousand lakes» stretches from South to North, a chain of lakes, canals and rivers, bordered by magnificent pine, oak and ash forests. Paradise for nature lovers, the regions abounds with a rich and diersified fauna : Lynx, deer, bison, wolves, wild boar, beevers live alongside numerous species of birds, swans, cormorants and ash herons. Having become bathing stations in the 1920's, thanks to the nautical attractions, fishing and bathing, the small towns which you cross are animated with numerous festivals and concerts in the summer months. Between Ruciane Nida and Mikolajki, discover the animal reserve of Kadzidlowo. Other than the zoo, you can visit a perfectly restored traditional house In Gizycko, the huge fortress Fort Boyen reminds us of the tumultuous past that Poland has suffered. To the North, the small town of Wegorzewo beside lake Mamry is just 20 km from te Russain frontier : an attractive area for craftsmen who have regrouped numerous workshops and for the large beach of Ogonki 7 km to the South-East.
