Before heading for Berlin and its famous “Museum island” do make the side trip to astonishing Potsdam. Its an absolute must, is close by and with easy access.
Berlin will captivate you, there are so many things to do. Whether to explore on foot one of its many lakes edged with century old forests and opulent or luxurious villas, or visit the heart of the town, which has been so profoundly transfigured. More to the south and to the east, canals lakes and rivers intermingle to offer visits between Spree and Oder and some of the best eating in Germany, such as at Bad Saarow. Lovers of pure nature and tranquility will choose the Havel as far as Havelberg. The countryside is magnificent with few visitors. It is an itinerary that insiders recommend to each other. Don't forget to make a halt at red-brick Brandenburg with its famous statue of the giant Roland who protects the townhall. The oldest town of the region of Mark, it preserves many relics of the past.

There is a fish factory where you can fill up with smoked fish. make a detour to Lychen. The river Woblitz snakes through the forest and then empties into the Großer Lychensee: it is one of the most beautiful trips in the region. The Havel is along tranquil river which crosses a sparsely populated countryside.
In Regow a stop is obligatory. This “bio” farm of hundreds of goats sells its varied and tasty cheeses. The towers of the Templin welcome the visitor from far away. With its 13th century town wall and its ancient houses the town has retained its romantic atmosphere.
To the West, the lakes of Neuruppin are natural oases wher there are still numerous marine eagles and beevers. The town of Altruppin, former capital, is a nature of total beauty. Neuruppin, the new modern town built in the 18th century, is witness to the ideas that illuminated Prussia in such a marked way from Berlin to Potsdam and the entire region.
To the South, are Berlin and Potsdam, two cities best discovered from their waterways. To the East the ancient Finowkanal traverses the beautiful countryside and terminates at a monument unqiue in Europe : the boat lift at Niederfinow, on the Oder Havel canal.

The lake Fleesensee is one of the most beautiful areas in Germany. Quite close, the lake Müritz welcomes numerous birds : cormorants, cranes and even eagles. From the top of the Gothic towel of Röbel, you will make staggering pictures.
Waren is a very lively city with a renowned marina. Every lake opens on several others. You will explore them as you wish, alternating strolls, swimming, fishing and idleness.
On the West, Plau overlooks the lake to which it has its name. Down from the tower of the XVth century, we have an impressive view on tiled roofs and medieval fortifications. The Müritz-Elde canal, which links the river Elde to the lake Müritz runs along the Elde River and its numerous meanders. parchim, built between two branches of the Elde, is exceptional for its ancient city centre, its ramparts and its half-timbered houses. Numerous villages and small medieval cities such as Lübz, Grabow or Plate offer all along the route fantastic sights. Finally, Schwerin and its famous Rococo castle are a highlight of your cruise not to miss.
Fürstenberg

From Fürstenberg, you go towards the West and the great lakes of the Mecklenburg.
Your first stop should be the rococo castle of Rheinsberg. Navigating towards the West you will discover Mirow and its curious houses of wooden boats then Müritz without forgetting the town of Röbel.To the North head for Wesenberg, a village remarkable for its all wooden bridge then Neustrelitz.
In these vast and mixed waters, navigation needs a little more attention than on a canal; but one is more than recompensed when dropping anchor in the middle of a lake and making the most of the purest waters in Europe, for the beautiful swimming in the middle of this unspoilt and wild nature. Stop in one fo the numerous smoked fish factories, an exquisite specilaity not to be missed.
