The Charente is “the
most beautiful stream of the kingdom”, according to Francis
Ist. The Charente runs to the Atlantique ocean accross a wild landscape
with old mills, picturesque villages and vineyards, famous for their
Cognac and their Pineau. The Charente offers 170 km of waterways,
with only 21 locks (18 without lock keepers).
